Geographical Location/Political Boundaries

The city is situated in the northern part of Nueva Ecija, 47 kilometers away from the seat of the provincial government in Palayan City; 160 kms. north of Manila; 116 kms. south of Baguio City; and approximately 150 kms. west of the Clark Special Economic Zone. It is nestled at the foot of the Caraballo Mountain Range, and it is bounded by the Sierra Madre Mountain in the east, Municipality of Carranglan in the North, Municipalities of Lupao and Talugtog in the West and Science City of Muñoz and Llanera in the South.

Accessibility

The city is generally accessible from all four directions. From North to South, San Jose City is a 4-hour-trip from Santiago City, located 140 km north of the city. Conversely, it is a 3 1/2 hourdrive from Manila or a good-one-hour-ride from Cabanatuan City. Since the city is located along the Maharlika Highway system, all modes of transportation going to Cagayan passes through the city. Transportation services include the major bus companies of Baliwag Transit, Golden Bee Liner, Partas Bus Co., and other passing by buses like Victory Liner, Florida Bus, AutoBus, Nelbusco Liner, and other minor transport carriers.

Topography: Elevation and Slope

More than 50% of the San Jose City’s land is situated along level to very gently sloping (M) topography. Slope ranges from 0-3%. This starts from the boundary between the city and the municipality of Muñoz and extends up to the urban center in Poblacion, Brgy. Tayabo on the north, and Brgy. Palestina on the east. Undulating to rolling and rolling to hilly areas are found in the northern portion of the city with slopes varying between 8-18% and 18-30%, respectively.

Land Resources

San Jose City has a total land area of 18,725 ha. which is roughly 3.25% of the total land area of the Province of Nueva Ecija of 5,751.33 sq. km. The City is politically subdivided into 38 barangays divided into 10 urban and 28 rural classification.
