In resolution No. 69, series of 1969 of the First Municipal Board, the Official Seal of San Jose City (Figure 2) was adopted. The seal is symbolic of the city being a fast-growing infant city in Nueva Ecija. In the year 2000 however, the Sangguniang Panlungsod amended it by City Ordinance 00-039 which states the inclusion of Onion among its symbols. The onion is placed below the palay grains as it also represent primal agricultural produce in the city next to palay.

The sun represents the location of the city as center of commerce, agriculture, and industry. In the middle of its coat-arms is a representation of the sun with four prominent rays projecting from the middle. The seal depicts San Jose City with its strategic location being at major national-provincial thoroughfare. The North ray represents the thoroughfare to Cagayan Valley; the South ray represents the thoroughfare to Manila and the Tagalog Regions; the Eastern ray represents the thoroughfare to Aurora Province and Tayabas and the Western ray represents the main road to Pangasinan and Ilocos Region. It is from these facts that San Jose is considered the gateway and springboard to the lush Cagayan Valley Region. The carabao head and plow signifies that agriculture is the main industry of the city. The grains of palay are a symbol of Wag-wag San Jose, a high quality variety of rice; the warehouse symbolizes industry and the potentialities of being an industrial center and the wheel signifies the fast and continuous progress of the city in the fields of commerce and industry.
